RECAP: KAYTRANADA + JUSTICE KICK OFF 'FALL 25' TOUR' IN VANCOUVER

Updated: 4 days ago

Kaytranada and Justice kicked off their co-headline Kaytranada x Justice Fall 25' Tour last night, October 16th, at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. The show marked the first of twelve North American dates that will see the two groundbreaking artists play major arenas across the continent before wrapping in Miami on November 16. Night one set the standard for what will undoubtedly be one of the most talked-about electronic tours of the year.

Kaytranada has built a strong history with British Columbia, returning yet again after headlining FVDED in the Park in Surrey this past July and a show at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby in September 2024. With this performance, he reached a new milestone, marking his 10th show in the province since his first Vancouver show at Fortune Sound Club in November 2013.

Known offstage as Louis Kevin Celestin, the Haitian-Canadian DJ and producer from Saint-Hubert, Quebec, has become a defining name in global electronic music. His viral remix of Janet Jackson’s ‘If’ and his Boiler Room debut in 2013 propelled him into international recognition. His debut album 99.9% won the Polaris Music Prize, followed by Bubba, which earned two Grammy Awards including Best Dance/Electronic Album. His latest project, Timeless, further solidified his position as a leader in bridging the worlds of house, R&B, funk, and hip-hop.

Fans inside Rogers Arena were momentarily confused when Kaytranada’s setup didn’t appear on the main stage. That confusion quickly turned to excitement when a platform was seen floating down from the rafters. The crowd erupted as it lowered into place in the centre of the arena, revealing his stage. When the beat dropped and Kaytranada stepped on, the reaction was electric. It was an entrance no one expected but everyone appreciated.

His set was fluid and full of hits, moving between tracks from Timeless and earlier classics like ‘Lite Spots’ and ‘10%’ featuring Kali Uchis. The sound was crisp, the transitions seamless, and the lighting perfectly synced with his hypnotic grooves. With the elevated stage surrounded by fans on all sides, every person in the building had the perfect view, creating a true 360 experience.

Justice took the stage after, delivering their signature mix of heavy rhythm, cinematic visuals, and undeniable cool. The French duo, Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay, returned to Vancouver just one year after their 2024 Pacific Coliseum show, marking their sixth performance in the city since their debut at Caprice in 2007.

The set began with ‘Genesis,’ a crowd favourite that also happens to be a Vancouver Canucks pregame anthem, making it an especially fitting choice for Rogers Arena. The massive screens behind them flashed imagery of their iconic cross logo.Tracks from Hyperdrama blended smoothly with classics like ‘D.A.N.C.E,’ ‘Stress,’ and ‘Waters of Nazareth,’ each reimagined with new transitions for the tour.

Between songs, Gaspard and Xavier stepped down to the barricade, greeting fans, signing vinyl records, and posing for quick photos. It was a rare sight for a duo known for their mystique, but one that highlighted how comfortable and confident they’ve become onstage two decades into their career.

Both artists came together in spirit through the design of the show. The tour’s concept merges Kaytranada’s groove-driven warmth with Justice’s sharp, distorted energy, creating a shared production that feels cohesive rather than competitive. The lighting, visuals, and transitions between sets were fluid, giving the impression of one continuous experience instead of two separate performances.

The Kaytranada x Justice Fall 25' Tour was born out of their growing creative partnership. The pair shared a bill at Paris’ Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre in June 2024, performing as the sun set over the city. Just months later, Kaytranada remixed JUSTICE’s ‘Neverender,’ featuring Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, a track that went on to win a Grammy and peak at #18 on the Top 40. That collaboration laid the groundwork for this tour, which now brings their combined artistry to some of the biggest venues in North America.

The timing couldn’t be better. Justice recently released a Mannequin Love remix EP featuring reworks by The Dare, Braxe + Falcon, and Hudson Mohawke, while Kaytranada continues to ride the success of Timeless and new production credits for artists including Justine Skye and UK R&B group FLO. Both artists are operating at full stride, and their chemistry translated perfectly to the stage.

As the show ended, the audience remained in place for a few moments longer, unwilling to break from what they’d just witnessed. Vancouver’s opening night was a seamless fusion of sound and design, a perfect pairing between two of the most forward-thinking names in modern electronic music.
