RECAP: JOHN LEGEND THE 'GET LIFTED 20TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR' IN VANCOUVER

John Legend returned to Rogers Arena on December 3rd for his first Vancouver performance in more than 8 years, marking only his 3rd visit to the city. The stop on the Get Lifted 20th Anniversary Tour was show 38 of 41, arriving late in the global run and carrying the weight of a major career milestone. Fans filled the arena, ready to reconnect with one of the most influential voices in R&B.

The tour has travelled through major hubs including Glasgow, London, Amsterdam, and Paris before shifting to North America, where Legend performed in cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and Detroit. Vancouver’s placement near the end of the schedule added extra meaning, especially for longtime supporters who last saw him here in 2017 or 2013 at the Orpheum Theatre.

Legend opened with selections tied directly to his debut album. "Let's Get Lifted Again", "Used to Love U", and "Heaven" reintroduced the sound that first placed him on the map in 2004. Fans stayed engaged throughout the night, singing along, swaying back and fourth, while soaking in the moment.

He moved through a blend of covers, reinterpretations, and career highlights. "Tonight" brought instant recognition. The medley combining "SpottieOttieDopaliscious", "I Can Change", and "I Want You" offered a nod to both his influences and collaborators. A reflective moment arrived with "Take My Hand, Precious Lord", connecting the performance to his gospel roots.

The mid-show section featured tributes to artists who helped shape his early sound. Songs like "Everything Is Everything", "Soul Sista", "You Got Me", and "Just Friends" provided a mix of soul, hip hop, and R&B, mirroring the era where Legend first emerged on a national stage.

Later in the night, Legend transitioned into some of his most recognized hits. "Save Room", "Ordinary People", and "It Dont Have to Change" highlighted his signature piano-driven storytelling. "Green Light" lifted the energy before he moved into "All of Me", a song that continues to resonate widely more than a decade after its release. The closing moments circled back to the themes of Get Lifted, bringing the show full circle.

This Vancouver date arrived as part of a world tour designed to honour the album that earned Legend his first Grammy Awards and introduced the songs that built his foundation. With personal stories woven between songs, the show reflected on the experiences that shaped his earliest work.

Born John Roger Stephens in Springfield, Ohio, Legend grew up in a musically driven household where gospel, soul, and community performance shaped his early foundation. He studied at the University of Pennsylvania, performed in a cappella groups, and played piano on Lauryn Hill’s "Everything Is Everything" before signing to GOOD Music. His debut album Get Lifted arrived in 2004 and launched a career that now includes 13 Grammy Awards, an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a Tony, and an Emmy, completing his EGOT by 2018.

Two decades after Get Lifted, Legend remains a defining presence in R&B and one of the genre’s most versatile performers. Vancouver’s crowd witnessed a night shaped by reflection, legacy, and the unmistakable voice that continues to lead his evolving career.  John Legend Vancouver.
